چکیده
This article deals with prehistoric stone objects called ‘thunderstones,’ which in the Middle Ages through modern times wereoften placed at border points of houses and farm buildings (e.g., roofs, chimneys, walls, thresholds), as well town walls other defence walls. It should be assumed that they were used a magical means to protect areas considered controlled by humans (orbis interior) from threats posed outside world exterior). The clearly marked repetition same types places these deposited (in inhabited humans) many European regions indicates this was chronologically territorially widespread phenomenon.

Urban reconciliation ecology: the potential of living roofs and walls.
Reconciling human and non-human use of urban regions to support biological conservation represents a major challenge for the 21st century. The concept of reconciliation ecology, by which the anthropogenic environment may be modified to encourage non-human use and biodiversity preservation without compromising societal utilization, potentially represents an appropriate paradigm for urban conserv...
متن کاملOf towers, walls, and fields: perspectives on language in science.
Language in science is in the midst of change and appears dominated by two contradictory trends. Globalization of scientific English seems to promise greater international unity, while growth of field-specific jargon suggests communicational diaspora. Real in part, each trend is complex and multileveled, and includes elements of convergence and divergence, along with important implications for ...
متن کاملRoofs and Convexity
Convex roof extensions are widely used to create entanglement measures in quantum information theory. The aim of the article is to present some tools which could be helpful for their treatment. Sections 2 and 3 introduce into the subject. It follows descriptions of the Wootters’ method, of the “subtraction procedure”, and examples on how to use symmetries.

Energy savings in buildings or UHI mitigation? Comparison between green roofs and cool roofs
The intensification of the Urban Heat Island effect (UHI) is a problem that involves several fields, and new adequate solutions are required to mitigate its amplitude. The construction sector is strictly related with this phenomenon; in particular, roofs are the envelope components subject to the highest solar irradiance, hence any mitigation strategy should start from them and involve their ap...
